Competition Rules

 

Six formal league competition evenings to the season which go towards prestigious awards made by the club.

Two entries are allowed in each category(except slides where three are permitted), Monochrome, Alan Hoff, Ruth Austen, Slides and now Digital. Subjects for the entries are open with the exception of two set subjects in each of the categories on two of the  competition evenings. An external judge is appointed to cast comment, opinion and award marks on each entry.

Entries to these competitions can then be used as entries to inter club competitions organised by SAPA (The Stour And Avon Photographic Association.

 

Print Of The Year is open to any member that has entered their prints in the league throughout the current season, we have two categories Monochrome and Colour Prints from Alan Hoff and Ruth Austen. A maximum of four entries in each category is permitted. An external judge is appointed to pass comment and choose a winner and runner up.

 

Slide of The Year is open to any member that has entered the Slide league throughout the current season. A maximum of four slides per member is permitted. An external judge is appointed to pass comment and choose an overall winner and runner up.

 

Digital File Of The Year is open to any member that has entered the Digital league throughout the current season. A maximum of four images per member is permitted. An external judge is appointed to pass comment and choose an overall winner and runner up.( Due to the time required in transferring images to laptop the entries to this competition must be handed to our competition secretary before the allotted evening. There will be no entries excepted on the night.)

 

Fun Competitions are also held during the season, we ask one of our members if he or she would do the judging on these evenings, it has proved to be a very entertaining evening.

 

 

THE STOUR AND AVON PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION (S.A.P.A.)

S.A.P.A. represents some twenty clubs in the Stour and Avon area. The aims are to promote print and slide competition between member clubs and to assist in the formation of specialist groups. Throughout the year inter-club battles take place, and on an annual basis S.A.P.A. organises ALL V ALL battles for print, Slide and Audio Visual presentations. We as founder members of the association support and promote all S.A.P.A. Events

COMPETITION RULES: (Revised July 2008)

There will be Five sections:

(a) MONOCHROME LEAGUE PRINTS

(b) ALAN HOFF LEAGUE PRINTS

(c) RUTH AUSTEN LEAGUE PRINTS

(d) SLIDES Competitions 1,3 and 5

(e) DIGITAL FILE Competitions 2,4 and 6

MAXIMUM ENTRY—2 Prints & 2 Digital Files submitted. SLIDES—3 per person.

Anyone entering Alan Hoff League prints cannot enter the Ruth Austen League throughout the season and vice versa.

ENTRY FEE: 50p per Print, Slide or Digital File submitted.

PRESENTATION

SECTION (a Prints in this section may be any size up to ( 20 x 16 mount size) Anyone can enter this section.

SECTION (b) Colour Prints in this section should be 7.5x5 min size and

8 x10 max size.(Not including mount) Anyone entering this section cannot enter section ( C )

SECTION © Colour Prints in this section may be min 8 x 10 Mount size not to

exceed 20 x 16 .Anyone enter this section cannot enter section (b).

SECTION (d) Slides may be trade or self processed and must be

spotted bottom left as you look at them. Open to any member.

SECTION (e) Entries shall be digital files in jpeg format. The maximum dimensions of an entry shall be 1400 pixels in width and 1050 pixels in height and it is recommended that they be saved in the sRGB colour space.

SECTION (a)-(b) & (c) All prints must be named and marked at the rear, top left with section entered.

NOTES: No print or slide or digital file may be submitted for more than one competition other than Print or Slide of the Year competition.

Members are encouraged to enter work that is less than two years old, in an effort to promote new work.

Competition Entries

ALL ENTRIES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN ONE WEEK BEFORE THE COMPETITION.

The Committee reserve the right to mark and record on the back of any print or slide. The winner of each section will be awarded a trophy.

New members of the club may enter section (a), (b), (d) but at the discretion of the committee may be promoted to a higher section. Work will be remarked accordingly.

MONOCHROME OF THE YEAR

Members of section (b) may submit a maximum of four prints having gained a reasonable mark during the current season.

COLOUR PRINT OF THE YEAR

Members of section (b) and (c) may enter, subject to the conditions of Monochrome of the Year.

SLIDE OF THE YEAR

Members may submit a maximum of four slides having gained a reasonable mark during the current season.

DIGITAL PROJECTED IMAGE OF THE YEAR

Members may submit a maximum of Three digital files to the competition secretary one week before the competition night. No Entries Will Be Excepted On The Night.

SLIDE KNOCKOUT COMPETITION

This is a fun competition judged by the member's votes. The number of entries (usually four) is unlimited but may be restricted on the evening if an excessive number are submitted. The normal entry fee is charged per slide. Winner takes all.

MEMORIAL COMPETITIONS

Memorial competitions are "open subject" for prints and slides, and are not bound by the limitations of sections (a) to (g). Prints may be of any size, trade or self processed. The number of entries is unlimited but may be restricted on the evening if an excessive number are submitted.

The Committee reserve the right to amend the competition rules if and when necessary
